To give man an “historical” doctrine of creation, in the modern sense of that term, it is necessary to supplant the creative act with a creative process, so that the initiative is at the very least placed within history, if not made totally a product of history. Such theologians are philosophical immersionists; the only God they can tolerate is one who is immersed in history, one who is Himself a product of natural process and is working together with man to conquer time and history.
